“Rules”

You have 10 Minutes to present your topic. Take this limit seriously. It goes without saying that you cannot explain everything in 10 Minutes!
preparation time should not exceed 10 hours (if you only need 4 hours, that’s fine)
If you have slides, please send them to me the the evening (8pm) before your presentation is due. Format: PDF, OpenOffice Impress, Powerpoint (not the new version ppt not pptx). (Or bring your own laptop.)
Your presentations and essays will not be graded, but you will receive feedback.
essays (& Slides) will be available to all students (Password protected, without the name)
If you write an essay, it should be 1000 - 1200 words. The deadline for the submission of essays (via email) is 21 Nov, 8 pm.
Presenters and essay writers will have a significant advantage in the written exam.

Bibliographic software

http://www.zotero.org/ Zotero - is free (as in free beer) and a plugin for the www-browser Firefox. I know colleagues using it happily. If you are a Word-User, I would recommend Zotero. It is also available for all platforms (Mac, Windows, Unix(es))
http://www.endnote.com/ - if you are using MS Word, Endnote is commercial product that is used by many researchers. I don’t know expensive it is....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reference_management_software and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_reference_management_software has a few more links. Important is to have a software that links your database with pdf’s and that is flexible when it comes to exporting/importing the data in the various formats.
http://www.citavi.com/ Citavi - an alternative to Endnote, they have a trial version limited to one hundred items
OpenOffice - the free alternative to Word - has its own bibliography tool
http://jabref.sourceforge.net/ If you are using LATEXto write your essays and papers, and you are a Windows-User, this is the application to organize your bibliographies. If you are a Mac-user, I prefer BibDesk (http://bibdesk.sourceforge.net/). No costs. And if you are willing to learn LATEX, look at http://tug.org/begin.html.
